{The year of the Riv}

My River......
My first babe.....
My sweet, loving, smart, handsome boy, has officially graduated 6th grade.((tears))
As we were leaving the auditorium today, his teacher whispered in his ear,
"Riv....no more #2.
River, YOU are #1!"
Remember science fair and valentine's box?  He thought he would always be the 2nd place boy.

This has been a year of growth, new found friendships, educational leaps, self confidence and transition from boy to young man.
While we were in Arizona for the wedding, River was bummed out,  very sad, not happy, tearful about missing the assembly of a lifetime!!!!!
"The Ken Garff Road to Success" Assembly.
It is a program where the kids log their reading minutes.  For every 100 minutes read, they get a ticket to put into a drawing for a bike.
River had 90 tickets.
Add the 1, times the 0, subtract the 9.......
by my calculations, that adds up to 9,000 minutes of reading in one month!!!!!!!
(my first draft was a typo...too many 0's)
He was so worried about missing out on a chance to win this bike.  His teacher assured him that if his name was called, he would still get the bike and she would secure it in her room until he came back.
Thursday afternoon while basking in the AZ sun, we got the call.
He had won the bike!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've never seen a kid so excited in my life!!!!!
He is proud and is deserving.
Once we were home, he received more good news in the mail.
He had been testing for an algebra honors class for his upcoming 7th grade year.
The letter stated that he made it!
THEN, if that wasn't enough!!!
On our answering machine was a message from River's school principal.
She wanted to let us know that River would be receiving an award at the last day of school assembly.

And today was the day that my amazing son was awarded
"The President's Education Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement"

To be eligible for this award, the student must earn a grade point average of 3.5 or higher, score high on state and national tests, and show achievements in leadership, high motivation, and integrity.

My momma pride is at it's fullest.....overflowing with amazement.
Proud that he is MY boy.
And thankful to the powers that be, to let me be HIS mom.

Awe....my Riv :)

Congratulations Riv! I'm so proud of you. Keep up the good work and pretty soon you will exceed my academic level....That's a challenge by the way. Game on to my fellow closet nerd.

P.S. the smart guys always end up with the babes....keep that in mind.

JEEZ LOO-WEEZZ!

Are we talkin' Barack OBAMA award here?

And the Bike! And the Girls from GLEE lauding our RIV?
(Those are the girl stars
from TV Show GLEE . . RIGHT?

I can see right now, Riv, you're gonna be at the head of the line for a scholarship to OXFORD in England--studying at the most renowned school of drama in the world --in London.
Yeah! But Julliard in NYC sounds like a great prospect -- that's a Harry Connick, Jr and a Frank Sinatra type environment of learning and BORN IN THE USA Art & Music CULT-SHAH.
